This course is designed to assist you in learning the basic elements and skills related to writing advertising copy for print and electronic media. Its gocus is on the mechanics of advertising copywriting, but with significant emphasis on the importance and interrelationships of creativity, research, layout and trafficking.
There will be two unit tests. They are graded as a percent of the points obtained on the highest paper in the class using the scale below. From time to time there will be announced and unannounced quizes. An unannounced quiz will not count against you if the absence is excused. An absence is assumed to be unexcused until the instructor excuses you. Make-up tests are automatically discounted 1/2 letter grade unless a doctor's note is presented.
A = 93 - 100 % B = 85 - 92 % C = 78 - 84 % D = 70 - 77 %
Assignments that are turned in late are discounted 1/2 letter grade.
30% Writing exercises and assignments (in and out of class) 30% A final project (an ad campaign) 40% Two scheduled exams (20% each)
Any assignments that are turned in late (including tests) are discounted 1/2 letter grade. Obviously, there is much to be accomplished and you should attend class regularly.
